Letting Go

live-trees-1“If need be, let go of everything, no exception, no exclusions. Nothing less than renewal of the Spirit is at stake.” — Ralph Bloom (The Book of Runes)

Dead Leaves

2016-06-02 12.11.02“What are you doing?” I asked.
I was only a child when my MOM began to pull all the brittle withering leaves off of the plant in my windowsill.
“Ohhhh,” she shooed me away, admonishing, “You have to take off the old dead leaves. Otherwise they drain the plant.”

Motherhood requires, among other things, an uncanny ability to Let Go of what is unnecessary in favor of that which will survive.
It is to become an expert in How to Grow.
And Growth involves letting go of superfluous ballast so that the Balloon may Lift Higher.
Mothers know this.

It was one of those simple moments as a child
That meant nothing. And everything.

RICK at Last Year’s MESSY MARCH Celebration

MESSY MARCH!
What again? Already?
YES!
And Do We Need it Now!

It is time to Let Go of All Judgement
Accept Imperfection.
Just Do It.
Not Worry About it.
Stop Polishing.
Be Human.
Create Something.
If it sucks and it’s a Total Mess, that’s Fine.
It’s Messy March! (more…)

Water Slide

Circular Water SlideDid you ever go to a Water Park?
I went to a few when I was a kid — not with regularity and I couldn’t tell you where
But I remember Water Slides
Climbing seemingly endless staircases to the top
Being given a mat of some kind
And sitting on it at the top of the Slide.
Ready to take off

I would hold on to the slight railing along my section of the slide,
Making My Way Down in Stops and Starts
Afraid to Let Go Completely

CHOOSING TO BE MORE VULNERABLE

Here we are, some 35 Posts into this Journey…

I am not a Computer Age Kid.
I was Living in a Well Established World when the Internet changed everything
Before that, everything seemed to work pretty well.
Then I woke one morning to discover
that most of the skills I’d taken time to cultivate
had been rendered somewhat useless.
Pretty much overnight.
That’s OK.
Life is not about getting used to things.
At its Best, Life is about Learning New Things
Always
Letting Go of what we know
And, by that, Knowing More… (more…)

My MOM’s Pizza Pans

IMG_2786Italians can be very superstitious about cooking.
I make my GrandMother’s Stroufeli probably closer to what hers tasted like than anyone else in the family. When she passed on, I inherited the pot in which she made it.
My Pizza Rustica is pretty good, but it lacks that authentic touch.
My cousin once told me the difference was in the crust.
“That’s because you may have gotten Grandma’s Stroufeli Pot, but I got her Rolling Pin!”

MESSY MARCH

MessyMarchCalendar

It’s MESSY MARCH.

Some Years ago, I knew a Beautiful Young Man who was just a little too uptight.
His Soul was Dazzling and just aching to Burst Forth.
But he subjected himself to too many rules.

I declared for him MESSY MARCH!

I suggested that he let go of All the Rules
and Perfectionism
and Can’ts
and Ways of Not Being Good Enough,
and that he just engage in the BIG BEAUTIFUL MAGICAL MESS that Life is!
