Some Years ago, I knew a Beautiful Young Man who was just a little too uptight.
His Soul was Dazzling and just aching to Burst Forth.
But he subjected himself to too many rules.

I declared for him MESSY MARCH!

I suggested that he let go of All the Rules
and Perfectionism
and Can’ts
and Ways of Not Being Good Enough,
and that he just engage in the BIG BEAUTIFUL MAGICAL MESS that Life is!

Dive in a Giant Vat of Melted Chocolate Naked!…
Kiss a Stranger — a Good Messy Kiss!
Write it Anyway!
Sing out Loud and Who Cares if it’s off Key? Make a JOYFUL NOISE!
Don’t worry about the sound of your “Om”… Just OM!
Risk!
Celebrate!

Since that time, My Beautiful Young Friend and I Celebrate MESSY MARCH Every Year!
And this Year, I invite you to Celebrate it as Well!

All of our Inner Critic Perfectionists leave for the month,
as Therapists often do in August.
They wish to help us maintain our standards, but they are needed
Every One of them
to head to Antarctica
and figure out how to make the Polar Ice Caps Perfect Again…

And while they are concentrating on that,
It is Our Time to Soar…
To Let Go…
To Love our Imperfect Bodies
To Swirl in Fascination at our Imperfect Knowledge
To Laugh at our Mistakes
To Try something New, and Delight in Doing it Imperfectly
To Make Something
To Make a MESS of Everything and know that it’s OK!
Trying Something is ALWAYS Worth it!
So, Try Something!
You cannot Fail
Because it is MESSY MARCH
And if it turns out to be a Big Mess, that’s part of the Celebration!
