BreakFast in the TreeHouses
The Best of the Breakfasts!

Today: COOKIES COOKIES COOKIES
Here’s the thing about Cookies:

“…There is a problem with the plan

The no more eating cookies plan!

The problem with the plan

Is if we want to eat more cookies, then, in fact, we can…

Cookies, cookies, cookies, cookies…”

— from A YEAR WITH FROG AND TOAD, a Musical by WILLIE REALE, based on the Stories by ARNOLD LOBEL

This is the Fourth Day this Week that we are featuring Breakfast Recipes, many of which I have whipped up at Tree House Point .

Giving Thanks, 2016

Me and MOM at GivingThanks Day, 2014

Me and MOM at GivingThanks Day, 2014

Has there Ever Been a More Welcome Holiday!?
Has there Ever Been a Better Time?

Pause and Give Thanks!
STOP!
BREATHE…
Let us Take a Moment and Just Be Grateful for What We Have!
Give Thanks to God
Or The Universe
Or Each Other
Or Whatever Divine Force You May Believe In
Or Just to The Air
Or the Sun
Or the Moon!
Just Speak It!
Just say it OUT LOUD,
Even to No One, in particular!
Just say the Words, “Thank You!”

40 Days

20151017_171456Forty Days until Christmas.
Close enough to talk about it.
The ads are annoying — No one wants to hear Christmas Music before GivingThanks Day!
Really! No One!
And the Holiday Window Displays amount to pandering
A way of coopting some symbol of Cheer and Good Spirits as a way to,
as my Father would say,
“get their hands in your pockets and take what you got!”
Their falseness is quite transparent.

But that doesn’t mean it’s too early to begin the True Work of Love and Kindness.
That’s Right for Any time of year!

Day of Atonement

IMG_5719A Jewish Colleague and Friend asked me last week, “Can I ask you a question? Where did you learn your Yiddisha? You speak it better than anyone I know. You spell it better than anyone I know…”

I had signed an Email “L’Shonah Tova Tikatevu!” (i.e.: “HAPPY NEW YEAR! May You be inscribed and sealed [in the Book of Life] for a Good year…”)

I told her that I grew up in New York Theater, and the Fabulous BARBARA COLTON was my Mentor in such things!
I also have spent the Jewish Holidays every year with my Best Friend’s Family (And after more than 35 years, Very Much My Own Family Too!)

I’ve Always Enjoyed So Many Aspects of Judaism.

I Love that each Day Begins with a Beautiful Sunset.

Eighth Day of Christmas

Eight…and the Second day of 2015.
Numerologically, this is the year of 8.
2+0+1+5 = 8
8 signifies Balance.
Therefore this is the Year of Balance.
And Today, the Eighth Day of Christmas, is Also about Balance.
So, Have Some.
Or Get Some.
Or Let Go of Whatever is Creating an Imbalance in your Life.
Let it Go
And Open to your Natural Equilibrium, Poise and Stability —
Your Inherent Goodness
The Person you Truly Are…

Not About Selfies

IMG_3595I came upon a Clever Little Novelty Book.
A Small Photo Album
Entitled, “Selfie”
And each page was captioned, “Me.”
“Me”
“Me”
“Me”
“Me”…

Very Clever for an Album of Selfies…

CHOOSING TO BE MORE VULNERABLE

Here we are, some 35 Posts into this Journey…

I am not a Computer Age Kid.
I was Living in a Well Established World when the Internet changed everything
Before that, everything seemed to work pretty well.
Then I woke one morning to discover
that most of the skills I’d taken time to cultivate
had been rendered somewhat useless.
Pretty much overnight.
That’s OK.
Life is not about getting used to things.
At its Best, Life is about Learning New Things
Always
Letting Go of what we know
And, by that, Knowing More… (more…)

RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS

My MOM, at 86 years old, is still one of the most Gracious people I have ever known.

A woman named MARY lives in her building — 90 years old and alone. MOM will always mention to me how when my DAD passed away, this woman, MARY, gave her a Mass Card, and she was very touched by that.

Neighbor — such a Beautiful concept; so available to us to have and to be, though it sometimes gets lost amidst the tumultuous shuffle of our day-to-day lives. (more…)
