Reinventing OurSelves in the Second Half of Life

It is Nothing Short of Glorious!
In our Youth-Focused Culture, it may seem daunting.
But it is as natural as any other coming of age!
And we’ve been through so many such transitions…

Like an Onion, we shed our skin and there is a Whole New Fresh and Flavorful Layer Underneath!
It feels like bitterness as it squirts in our eye, but ultimately it makes everything Sweeter!
That which we see as an Ending is also a Beginning!

And a New Year Begins…

I have heard people talk about what a terrible year 2016 was and how glad they are to see it Over.
Well, maybe.

But 2016 was not All Bad,
Beginning with BARACK OBAMA’s Inspiring Final State of the Union Address
And ending with the poetic death of DEBBIE REYNOLDS following her daughter
(I do not see Death as a Bad thing, merely a fact of Life. And to die with Such a Poetic Touch is a Gift so rarely witnessed in this world.)

2016 gave us…

b. Susceptible to emotional injury, especially in being easily hurt
c. Susceptible to attack

The Deaths of those 49 kids in Orlando kicked off this tumultuous Summer in the shadow of what I find to be a fairly Terrifying Presidential Election Campaign, all making us aware of just how Vulnerable we are.

To All of the Students Who Have Failed My Class…

ReportCardAs another Academic Year draws to a close let us review:

1. Your parents paying a quarter of a million dollars for your college education does not entitle you to a diploma. You earn that through your work.
Yes, the money is obscene. Yes, as NEAL GABLER put it in last month’s article in the THE ATLANTIC [Link may be found here:

], “I’m not saying that universities are extortionist, but, well…universities are extortionist” — Educational institutions can be a lot like the Profiteering Insurance Companies that call themselves “Health Care.”  They don’t care about your Health. They are there to take your money.

Nevertheless, Tuition Payment does not entitle you to a degree.
It entitles you to something much better: an Education.

2. When you get out into the real world and hold a job for 6 months, that does not qualify you as an expert in your field. (more…)

Denouement

December 26th: First Day of Christmas
January 3rd: Ninth Day of Christmas
Time for “Nine Ladies Dancing”

Many speculate this refers to the Nine Fruits of the Holy Spirit, as specified in Galatians 5:22.
Some believe it references the Nine Ranks of Angels, some of whom appear in TONY KUSHNER’s ANGELS IN AMERICA.
For my own self, I believe it references three Lesbian Couples and three Shamanic Woman who make the choice to remain Single.
Awesome Women, All!
And they DANCE in Jubilation!

The TWELVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS are concluding their third Quarter.

“…On the Sixth Day of Christmas, My True Love Gave to Me: Six Geese a Laying…”
— Traditional English Carol

The Six Geese a Laying is said by some to represent the Six Days of Creation.
They represent New Life!
The Eggs they are a-Laying are Rife with the Promise of Life to Come!
It is also New Year’s Eve.
We are on the Cusp of Something New.
A New Beginning
Another Chance
A Clean Slate
A Fresh Start
A New Day
A Gift: To Receive; To Give

Plant

IMG_4575GRANDMA always said Transplanting must be done in March and October.
She always had Beautiful HousePlants.
I am a little late this year.
Got it done in April.
But it was still cold enough.

I think the Idea is that, at least in New York, the weather gets Warmer after March and the Plants can Flourish;
And it gets Colder after October, so the Plants lie somewhat Dormant.
So, rather than in the Middle of a Cycle,
you want to do any Transplanting at those Transition Points.

  1. Find a Pot about an inch longer in Diameter than what you have,
