Arrived at Penn Station 7:42 pm
Rushing down 33rd Street toward the subway,
a Man says to me, “Excuse me, Sir, May I ask you a Question?”
Enough of a New Yorker to know that a Question means a request for Money, I apologize and say I am in too much of a Hurry.

Leaves are Falling
Leaves are Turning
Stars are Burning in the Autumn Sky
Stars that have been there for Billions of Years
But not Forever
Stars that will be there long after we’re gone
But not Forever
The Summer has drawn its final breath
Autumn has begun. (more…)

Shadow Dance
My MOM is 87.
I cook often for her
Working in her kitchen preparing a meal
with an 87 year old woman moving about in a childlike way,
placing ingredients where they don’t belong,
displacing items from where I need them to be,
trying to help, but causing me to have to do the acrobatics of a whirling dervish
just to get the meal completed and on the table.
Where’s the garlic? I just had it!
Don’t throw away that pasta water. I… needed that.
Please don’t put the cheese back in the fridge, I…
But I have noticed, over time, that there are actually four of us in this tiny kitchen: (more…)

Community
December 14th, 2012: When the Shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut happened, I worked very hard to avoid any news about it — Then the week before Christmas, I was sitting with MOM when the report came on playing tapes of the 911 Call from the teacher protecting the children in the Coat Room. I wept ceaselessly for a very long time.
Three months ago, a Wonderful Director I know named MICHAEL UNGER offered me the privilege of working with him Casting two Musicals for the 12.14 Foundation.

CHOOSING TO BE MORE VULNERABLE
Here we are, some 35 Posts into this Journey…
I am not a Computer Age Kid.
I was Living in a Well Established World when the Internet changed everything
Before that, everything seemed to work pretty well.
Then I woke one morning to discover
that most of the skills I’d taken time to cultivate
had been rendered somewhat useless.
Pretty much overnight.
That’s OK.
Life is not about getting used to things.
At its Best, Life is about Learning New Things
Always
Letting Go of what we know
And, by that, Knowing More… (more…)

MESSY MARCH

It’s MESSY MARCH.
Some Years ago, I knew a Beautiful Young Man who was just a little too uptight.
His Soul was Dazzling and just aching to Burst Forth.
But he subjected himself to too many rules.
I declared for him MESSY MARCH!
I suggested that he let go of All the Rules
and Perfectionism
and Can’ts
and Ways of Not Being Good Enough,
and that he just engage in the BIG BEAUTIFUL MAGICAL MESS that Life is!
Dive in a Giant Vat of Melted Chocolate Naked!… (more…)
