Happy Eleventh Day of Christmas!

2016-12-24-10-46-31Still Celebrating.
Still Enjoying.
Still in search of Peace.
Still getting in touch with all the Myriad Ways we can feel God With Us!

Deep Breath…

Monday was that unusual Federal Holiday celebrating New Year’s Day because January 1st was on a Sunday this year,
So it felt like an Extra Day!
It was nice.
Many People chose to take down their Tree and Christmas Decorations, as it may have seemed to them an ideal time to make that happen.
Not to me!
Monday was the Eighth Day of Christmas!
Today is the Eleventh Day of Christmas!

All In The Striving

Writing QuillI posted an excerpt of my last Blog Post into one of my FaceBook Groups —
Only the first part — the words of President Obama in his last State of the Union Address.
This alone caused a bit of a stir — an onslaught of comments which escalated to the point where the Group Administrator deleted my Post.
I felt it required a response from me.
In responding, I learned a little bit more about Why I Write.
I am sharing excerpts of that here:

“Firstly, Thank You all for your responses!
I have always been a big fan of Diversity — of all types!
I am a little late to the party on FaceBook, but I see people (not just in this group) saying, “If you disagree with me, unfriend me!” and I think,
“What an Uninteresting World THAT would be!”
One of the things I always most admired about us —

December 31st : Sixth Day Of Christmas

“…On the Sixth Day of Christmas, My True Love Gave to Me: Six Geese a Laying…”
— Traditional English Carol

The Six Geese a Laying is said by some to represent the Six Days of Creation.
They represent New Life!
The Eggs they are a-Laying are Rife with the Promise of Life to Come!
It is also New Year’s Eve.
We are on the Cusp of Something New.
A New Beginning
Another Chance
A Clean Slate
A Fresh Start
A New Day
A Gift: To Receive; To Give

NYC Pride 1982

When I was a twenty-something, I didn’t understand why it was called “Pride.”
I didn’t March back then.
Today I understand
Today I feel it
Today I March
Because We are All One.
What happens to one of us happens to All of Us.

No Burning Bush

IMG_4729I bought my friend MARK an Ice Pop Maker for his Birthday.
The Perfect Gift! He Loves Ice Pops!
I headed up to Canada to bring it to him.

The night before, as I was packing, I wondered if it would be OK to bring it on the plane.
It was an Ice Cream Maker -type gizmo, which contained some kind of freezing fluid inside (Water? Dry Ice? It didn’t say…)

Questions Swirled around in my head…

Why I Teach

As another semester draws to a close, and the Students continue to change from year to year, it seems like a good moment to pause and look at Why I Teach…

Perez Hilton

Perez Hilton

Because I grew up with BARBARA WALTERS
And you grew up with PEREZ HILTON.

Because I grew up in the EISENHOWER/KENNEDY Era
And you grew up in the REAGAN/BUSH Era.

Because I grew up learning Table Manners
And you grew up learning Apps.

Because when I grew up, we made it,
And when you grew up, you bought it.

Because when I grew up, Discipline and Respect and Good Sportsmanship were Values taught to us,
And when you grew up, Everyone got a Trophy.

It Takes a Village

Mostly, I tune it out.
I’ll be in a store, or a Coffee House
It’s the first week of December
Christmas Music is playing a Little Too Loud

I ignore it.
I don’t like when the Beautiful Sounds of a Season I treasure
Are coopted in an attempt to make me buy things.
So I have a pretty strong filter.

But then, there’s a few that break through… (more…)
