My Dad passed away Five Years ago this Morning.
My Mother and I were with him.
He was Ninety Years Old.
During his battle with Cancer, he chose Home Hospice Care.
We took care of him.
One of those things that you can in no way be prepared for,
But as the Universal Prayer goes,
“Dear God, Please turn me into someone who can do this!”
On the day he died, I sent this Letter to my Nephews and Niece.
Today, in memoriam, I am posting it here:

ABUNDANCE
What does it mean to you?
One need look no further than The Secret Shame of Middle-Class Americans, NEAL GABLER’s profound expose’ of current economics in America, in this month’s THE ATLANTIC to see the sobering realities of economics for Most of Us.
As the byline reads, “Nearly half of Americans would have trouble finding $400 to pay for an emergency. I’m one of them.”
Earnings are low. Debt is high. The shame of financial impotence is rampant.
I am as subject to these realities as any other person who has spent their life working in American Theater since America’s 200th Birthday.
But these actualities and the harshness of their toll do not define me.
As GABLER says in his article, “We don’t make [the choices that define who we are] with our financial well-being in mind… We make them with our lives in mind. The alternative is to be another person.”
But I choose to be the person that I am.

Christmas Card 2015
…At Last!
And this year, it’s posted before WASHINGTON’S BIRTHDAY! 🙂
For those who don’t know, My Christmas Card traditionally arrives sometime in January or February, but has always made it out before Easter Sunday! After so many years, it has become somewhat of a Lovely Tradition!
I think of it as one way of Celebrating the Values of Christmas the Whole Year through!
As we get deeper into Winter, reminders of Kindness, Generosity, Love, Peace on Earth and Good Will toward Everyone are generally Welcome and Appreciated.
I hope that this story can be that for you.
And So, here even in the middle of February, I offer you my Christmas Card.
Feel free to curl up with a Mug of Hot Cacao, or your favorite Tea, and Enjoy!
Sent to you with Love and Wishing You all the Bountiful Blessings of Winter…

Three French Hens
December 25th: Christmas Day
December 26th: The First Day Of Christmas
December 27th: The Second Day Of Christmas
December 28th: The Third Day Of Christmas. Today. Now.
A quick bit of internet research reveals that the Three French Hens in the Carol, “The Twelve Days of Christmas” have several symbolisms:
Some say they symbolize Faith Hope and Love
Others say they signify the Holy Trinity
And still others believe they refer to a new breed of Chicken.
In some cultures, White Chickens are believed to bring Good Luck.
For many, the Hen is a sign of Motherly Devotion
For others, it symbolizes Divine Intervention.

Post Number One Hundred
This is my One-Hundredth Blog Post.
One Hundred Musings,
Explorations,
Journeys,
Wonders,
Political Rants,
and Heartfelt Offerings.
As I start to write this, sitting in an airport,
a family with two screaming wailing children comes and sits right next to me.
I write anyway.

Four Sunsets
The First was strangely Magnificent.
Majestic.
Wide.
As if it had been summoned by some Glorious Deity
For Some Grand Occasion
And it was.
‘Twas likely no Greater or Lesser than any other of the
Twenty-thousand or so Sunsets of my Life thus far.
What set this one apart was that
I paused, quieted myself, and opened to it.

Nothing to Do.
A Morning in Provincetown.
Attempting a few days away
Sans Phone
Sans Laptop.
Looking out at the Ocean
Magnificent.
Amidst the Peacefulness of Ocean and Sky,
I jump to my phone, as if by some automatic reflex in response to a few minutes of Nothing Happening
What must I be Missing?

Small Leaves of Basil

Earlier this Summer,
I planted a Basil Plant in my Kitchen Window.
I wanted a Rich and Robust Verdant Plant with Opulent Flavorful Leaves of Basil, like the kind you find in the Italian Markets at the Peak of Season.
I was wrapped in Glad Expectancy!
But that didn’t happen.
Instead, I got a long kinda’ scrawny, spindly plant with very small and thin pale green leaves.
And although it wasn’t what I was hoping for,
It is still a Miracle.
I stop and Count the Miracles.
