RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS

My MOM, at 86 years old, is still one of the most Gracious people I have ever known.

A woman named MARY lives in her building — 90 years old and alone. MOM will always mention to me how when my DAD passed away, this woman, MARY, gave her a Mass Card, and she was very touched by that.

Neighbor — such a Beautiful concept; so available to us to have and to be, though it sometimes gets lost amidst the tumultuous shuffle of our day-to-day lives. (more…)

Radko Chain Link Garland

Radko Chain Link Garland

Christmas Decorations away…

The usual flood of memories and feelings that accompany the various keepsakes…

One that stands out is a colorful Radko chain link style garland, bought years ago at Bloomingdale’s After-Christmas Sale. Each link is made of countless strands of twirled tinsel. The slightest snag completely ruins the look, and it is prone to unraveling at the smallest inadvertent tug.

Back then, the Clerk who helped us was a middle-aged African American Gentleman. (more…)

Season of Hope Alive

Four Days into the New Year.

House still fully decorated …

Still wearing my Christmas Socks and SweatShirt… and wondering if that makes me some kind of lunatic.

The Joyful Noise of Christmas has died down outside my window.

Decorations have come down; Valentines Displays fill the aisles of local stores.

Still, today is technically only the Tenth Day of Christmas. (more…)

Keep Your Heart Open And Your Eyes Wide

A New Beginning
It’s not a day
Or a Crossover Moment at Midnight
Though those sorts of landmarks are nice to have and worth Celebrating…

It is a Frame of Mind
Like the Non-Judgemental Beginner’s Mindset.

It is a Willingness to Bless our Past
And Let it Go
And to Embrace Fully that which lies ahead;
To take Life’s Face in our Hands and say, “I Will Love You Again!” (more…)

Gift of Christmas Present

Happy Fifth Day of Christmas!

Gathering with Friends and Loved Ones
Reminiscing about Christmases Past and those no longer with us…

If you live to be a Hundred, that gives you only one hundred Christmases.
If you only live into your twenties, then it’s twenty-some-odd.
If you make it into your sixties or seventies, then that’s sixty or seventy Christmases in a LifeTime…
However it adds up, it’s a precious few.

So, Enjoy the Season… (more…)

Flecks of Gold

When I was in the Amazon RainForest at the Yachana EcoLodge, we were taken to the Water’s edge to observe the Natives of the RainForest panning for gold. I had always imagined that panning for gold involved lifting the pan from the ocean floor and discovering large Gold Nuggets.

Nope… (more…)

ENOUGH WITH ALL THIS GOYASHIM

A Whole Lotta’ Christmas going on…

If you are like me, you are very much in the throes of it right now, today being the Day Before the Night Before Christmas.

But what if you’re not into it?
What if you were not raised in the Christian Tradition?

What if it feels like everyone gets to have a bright sparkly decorated tree with presents underneath it except you? (more…)

The Twelve Days of Christmas

Many of us might think, living in the Consumerist Circus of Victor Lebow as we do, that we are now in the midst of the TWELVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS.

This would be incorrect.

Good News for those who feel that they are Way Behind and the Twelve Days have already begun:

They have Not.

We are now, in fact, some seven days from its beginning at all… (more…)
