On the Border of Us and Them

from THE COURSE IN MIRACLES

from THE COURSE IN MIRACLES

I don’t want there to be an “Us” and “Them.”
I am trying to avoid that path of thinking.
UNITED States!
UNITED States!
Stay UNITED!

Trying to get on with my Life and get back to Writing and Working and Taking Care of MOM,
Casting Shows, and Being Present in my Teaching, and Organizing for Christmas, and Cooking for GivingThanks Day…
I have to make Apple Sauce!
(I know. Who does that!?)

I go back and forth
Between my Fundamental Belief in the Good of People
And Trying to pick Myself Up Off the Floor from all of this!

The Popular Vote went to HILLARY CLINTON.

Let’s not forget that.

We still Live in a Country in which the Majority of people Believe in Freedom and Respect and Love

More than the Values DONALD tRUMP touted throughout this campaign.

More People Believe a Woman deserves to be President than subscribe to Misogyny.

More People are willing to fight Racism and Xenophobia than are Willing to tolerate it.

We are still the Majority.

Remember that.

The Electoral College was founded by Rich White Men to protect Rich White Men.

And as we have seen, it is quite an effective tool.

i-must-learn-forgiveness-yet-again-at-this-stage-of-life-i-must-learn-it-as-if-for-the-very-first-time“There is no way to Peace. The way is Peace.”
— A. J. MUSTE

As early as Kindergarten, every Grammar School Class I remember began with the Pledge of Allegiance:
“I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America…”
Even today, I take that pledge very seriously.
It never occurred to any of us then that there might come a day when we would be somehow Less United.
Yet here we are, at Election 2016.

I want to Show Love and Respect for Every One of God’s Creatures.
I want to see the Good in People.
I want to Live in a World that is Peaceful and Brimming Over with Beauty and Love and Rampant Kindness.
I am Imperfect — very much so — but these are the Ideals toward which I strive.

FLOTUS

Cover of LIFE, 1939

Cover of LIFE, 1939

When I was a kid growing up,
ELEANOR ROOSEVELT was referred to as if she were some kind of Saint.

It would be years before I would learn of her intimate relationship with LORENA HICKOK (“HICK,” as she was called), and her place in LGBT Culture.
But my childhood memories are of her Words as revered.

“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.”

“You must do the things you think you cannot do.”

“Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people.”

“Do what you feel in your heart to be right — for you’ll be criticized anyway. You’ll be damned if you do, and damned if you don’t.”

“Women are like teabags. You don’t know how strong they are until you put them in hot water.”

“The future belongs to those who believe in the Beauty of their Dreams.”

I am a sort of a Baby Boomer, born late in that Game — after World War II, and into the Sixties — but I never understood this idea of a First Lady Leading and being the Mother of a Nation.
Our Presidents were all Men, after all.
From whom was I to get some context for this?
PAT NIXON?
The reprehensibly Out-Of-Touch NANCY REAGAN?
As TONY KUSHNER called her, ‘The Understandably Heavily Medicated LAURA BUSH’???

This Past Week, I understood what all of the Fuss was about.
A Nation in Pain.
A Nation So Desperately in Need of Healing.
A Nation in need of a Woman
to Care and Mother and Heal…

I Thank God for MICHELLE OBAMA!
I think she is my single Favorite AMERICAN!
She is Beautiful in Every Way!
She is Intelligent and Graceful and Truly epitomizes what it is to be a First Lady.

Whatever your Party and However you may be Considering Voting,
Would you consider Dropping any PreConceived Notions you may have, and watching what she said in New Hampshire a few days ago:

About That Last Post

Pencil PointHello, Fellow Citizens of the Blogosphere!
I am really struggling with my Writing these Days.
Over the past two or three weeks, every time I sit down to write a Blog Post about Recipes from the Summer or Artistic Pursuits or Gratitude or Miracles, all that comes out is all of the Angst and Fear I am feeling about this Election.
It is Wearing Away at my Insides and Keeping me up at Night.
I finally decided I would write about it, and Post it.
I didn’t like how it came out.
So I wrote it and rewrote it in tiny micromovement windows all week long.
I kept feeling that there was some Higher Perspective Piece I wanted to write — something about us all as One
or Making the Right Decisions
or Respecting one another.

I have been somewhat stymied of late.
Unable to Write.
Because I hesitate to write about anything that isn’t an attempt to stop the rise of DONALD tRUMP to Power.
It is Paralyzing.
We Must All Lift our Voices!
Now!
It will require All of Us!

It is only another 25 Days until this Election but Free Floating Anxiety tears at our insides.

Trump, Jr. with his Kill

Trump, Jr. with his Kill

You know how you look at Something
It seems shocking at First
You can tell it’s Bad.
You don’t like it.
It’s Absurd, Really!
But after it’s been around awhile, you kind of get used to it.
And then it seems OK
Or at the Very Least, the Best you can do.
And, over time, you come to Accept it
As Normal.

Vulnerable in the Soup

The Deaths of those 49 kids in Orlando kicked off this tumultuous Summer in the shadow of what I find to be a fairly Terrifying Presidential Election Campaign, all making us aware of just how Vulnerable we are.
