BreakFast in the TreeHouses 2 of 5

BreakFast in the TreeHouses
The Best of the Breakfasts!

Today: EGG BAKES

EGG BAKES are fairly simple.
They are a Great Way to serve Breakfast to a lot of guests, without having to cook individual omelets for each person, which would likely not all be ready at the same time.
With a little prep the day before, the Egg Bake pops in the Oven, and comes out ready all at once so that everyone may enjoy Breakfast Together.
And Community — Being Together — is a Beautiful Way to start the Day
And Live the Day, for that matter!

At Tree House Point www.TreeHousePoint.com , I have seen a greater variety of Egg Bakes than I could have known existed.

All the Rushing.
Never standing still.

The Automation
The ATMs
Ticket Machines
And Online Ordering…
Rarely encountering another person — Rarely experiencing what used to be called Customer Service.
Sometimes we need a Break from the Day to Day!

In the Days Following…

The Tree at Rockefeller Center, during one of its last days on display

The Tree at Rockefeller Center, during one of its last days on display

Yes, I know.
Christmas is over now.
I have pushed it as far as I can — all twelve days.
There are those awesome folk in Norway who keep it going through tonight
and I LOVE That!
But here, I expect that the full twelve days through January 6th is about as far as one can expect to take it.
And I have enjoyed the Full Ride.

Our Contemporary Culture seems dismissive of those of us who Celebrate Fully.
Christmas Day is a Day, and Get on with your Life!
And to that I say, “What Life?”
The Celebration of Kindness, Peace and Joy is my Life!
Acknowledgement of the presence of Angels is My Life!
I’ve no desire to toss all of that aside quickly to get back to working and winter and Non-Festive Things!
I have enough days of Non-Festive Things!

And so I have reluctantly taken down most of the decorations and garlands… (more…)

Twelfth Night

TALU GREEN in the Broadway Musical, FELA!

TALU GREEN in the Broadway Musical, FELA!

And on the Twelfth Day of Christmas…
Twelve Drummers Drumming.

Said to symbolize The Twelve Points of Doctrine in the Apostle’s Creed
or the Twelve Apostles themselves
or the Twelve Tribes of Israel
or the Twelve Prophets…

GEEZ! Sometimes I think we just insist on putting GOD to Sleep!
What’s wrong with Twelve Drummers Drumming!?
I feel Certain that GOD likes Drummers!
…I mean, way more than the Twelve Points of Doctrine in the Apostles Creed!
There’s nothing wrong with those,
But Drummers are More Fun!
I believe that GOD Likes FUN!
I also Believe that GOD likes BARACK OBAMA’s 2016 Executive Order taking action to reduce Gun Violence.

Onions

IMG_4108Onions are SO FREAKIN’ DELICIOUS!
Cut ‘em up and fry ‘em in a pan with a little bit of oil.
That’s all you have to do.

Ever watch Onions Cook?
They start out So Big and Robust — Raw and Hardy Vegetable Chunks.
They’re Beautiful.
And they make you Cry.

Then, the Heat gets to them.
They separate into thin strips.
They start to sweat.
It looks like things are gonna’ be pretty bad for the Onion.

Sautee’ ‘em a Bit.

The Sweetness of Now

IMG_4880Growing up,
We lived upstairs in Apartment 4A.
My Aunt lived downstairs with her family in Apartment 1A.

My Mother and her Sister talked every day
Several times a day.
When prime time television ended each night at 11pm, My Aunt would bang on the Radiator Pipe to let us know she was coming up.
My Mother would grab a wooden spoon and bang back to let her know it was OK.
I never understood the point of this, as they came every night at the same time
and it was always OK.
My Aunt and Uncle would sit with my Mother and Father,
and they would have a cup of coffee together before bedtime.

My Mother and her Sister shared all kinds of things. (more…)

Stuffed Peppers

IMG_4323Cooking is an Act of Love.

My MOM was not one to cook with a Recipe.
Once in awhile she would use one as a guide,
But for her, Cooking was a Creative Excursion.
I’m that way too.
I get it from her.

I like it.
Because Love is Messy.
And we never know what’s going to happen.
But somehow when we find the Willingness to take the Risk,
Something Good Always turns out.

Growing Up Rich

Did you grow up Rich?
I did.

Ocean Beach Ferry

I see the throngs headed toward Penn Station
from their Manhattan Dwellings every Friday…
Struggling with bags and juggling train schedules,
Paying Fares on the LIRR or NEW JERSEY TRANSIT,
and on taxis and ferries
Just to get out to some tiny house they own
so that they can enjoy a sliver of sunshine.

When I was a Kid, My Father gave us the Ocean
And the Sky.
