When I was a kid growing up,
ELEANOR ROOSEVELT was referred to as if she were some kind of Saint.

It would be years before I would learn of her intimate relationship with LORENA HICKOK (“HICK,” as she was called), and her place in LGBT Culture.
But my childhood memories are of her Words as revered.

“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.”

“You must do the things you think you cannot do.”

“Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people.”

“Do what you feel in your heart to be right — for you’ll be criticized anyway. You’ll be damned if you do, and damned if you don’t.”

“Women are like teabags. You don’t know how strong they are until you put them in hot water.”

“The future belongs to those who believe in the Beauty of their Dreams.”

I am a sort of a Baby Boomer, born late in that Game — after World War II, and into the Sixties — but I never understood this idea of a First Lady Leading and being the Mother of a Nation.
Our Presidents were all Men, after all.
From whom was I to get some context for this?
PAT NIXON?
The reprehensibly Out-Of-Touch NANCY REAGAN?
As TONY KUSHNER called her, ‘The Understandably Heavily Medicated LAURA BUSH’???

This Past Week, I understood what all of the Fuss was about.
A Nation in Pain.
A Nation So Desperately in Need of Healing.
A Nation in need of a Woman
to Care and Mother and Heal…

I Thank God for MICHELLE OBAMA!
I think she is my single Favorite AMERICAN!
She is Beautiful in Every Way!
She is Intelligent and Graceful and Truly epitomizes what it is to be a First Lady.

Whatever your Party and However you may be Considering Voting,
Would you consider Dropping any PreConceived Notions you may have, and watching what she said in New Hampshire a few days ago:

About That Last Post

Pencil PointHello, Fellow Citizens of the Blogosphere!
I am really struggling with my Writing these Days.
Over the past two or three weeks, every time I sit down to write a Blog Post about Recipes from the Summer or Artistic Pursuits or Gratitude or Miracles, all that comes out is all of the Angst and Fear I am feeling about this Election.
It is Wearing Away at my Insides and Keeping me up at Night.
I finally decided I would write about it, and Post it.
I didn’t like how it came out.
So I wrote it and rewrote it in tiny micromovement windows all week long.
I kept feeling that there was some Higher Perspective Piece I wanted to write — something about us all as One
or Making the Right Decisions
or Respecting one another.

A Meme from the Internet

A Meme from the Internet

I have been somewhat stymied of late.
Unable to Write.
Because I hesitate to write about anything that isn’t an attempt to stop the rise of DONALD tRUMP to Power.
It is Paralyzing.
We Must All Lift our Voices!
Now!
It will require All of Us!

It is only another 25 Days until this Election but Free Floating Anxiety tears at our insides.

Things to Do Today

20160921_003717Today is World Gratitude Day.
September 21st.
Who knew?
I mean, it’s not a Holiday which I grew up knowing.
Apparently the United Nations Meditation Group created this Day back in 1977, by paying tribute to SRI CHINMOY, a Meditation Guru who had begun the concept some twelve years earlier at the East-West Center in Hawaii.

And so Here, Today, is a Day to Give Thanks across the World,
For All of Us to Come Together and Give Thanks!
LET’S!!!

Here are Ten Suggestions to Celebrate World Gratitude Day: (more…)

Last Few Days of Summer…

the-sun-is-shining-the-sky-is-infinite-blue-and-we-are-alive-what-greater-gifts-are-there-copyI always Love this time of year!
Everyone thinks that it’s Autumn
But it’s really still Summer.
It feels like a secret Gift.

Culturally, Summer runs from Memorial Day to Labor Day
And it ends at Back to School.
But really, Autumn doesn’t begin until September 21st
Actually, some years it’s September 20th.
But this year, it’s September 22nd!
That’s a Whole Extra Day!
Never Underestimate the value of the Gift of a Day!
Think of the Things in your Life that have Changed You or Shaped You…Those things often happen in one Day — sometimes in one Moment.
What a Great Gift these next few Days are!

Fifteen Years

Spontaneous Memorials cropped up all over the city in the days following 9/11/2001

Spontaneous Memorials cropped up all over the city in the days following 9/11/2001

Can it be fifteen years since that one Morning?

I had just opened my own Business in New York — moved into the Office the Week Before.
A friend was coming down from Westchester to help me set up my Computer Systems, and I was to meet her at Grand Central at 9:45am.
My Partner saw me to the door, as I was heading off.
Our downstairs neighbor was heading slowly up the steps toward us — which was unusual all by itself — and looking somewhat eerily stunned.
“Have you guys heard the news this morning?” she asked.
We had not.
“A plane hit the World Trade Center!
They don’t know if it’s an accident or terrorism or what.
I am just heading up to the roof to have a look.”
We joined her. (more…)

PTown Sunset 2016

I Love Provincetown.
I think it’s the Sunsets!

In this contemporary world in which year after year, we find ourselves increasingly immersed in the virtual reality of the internet,
it is so refreshing —
So Peaceful —
To return to the Elements.

Sunset on the Beach involves being Fully Present with the Four Miracle Elements: (more…)

Touching God for the First Time

Dad, during his Gymnastics Days

My Dad passed away Five Years ago this Morning.
My Mother and I were with him.
He was Ninety Years Old.

During his battle with Cancer, he chose Home Hospice Care.
We took care of him.
One of those things that you can in no way be prepared for,
But as the Universal Prayer goes,
“Dear God, Please turn me into someone who can do this!”

On the day he died, I sent this Letter to my Nephews and Niece.
Today, in memoriam, I am posting it here:
