She’s Ninety

Mom

Mom

MOM turns Ninety! She asked me to write something for the occasion. I read this at her Birthday Dinner last night. Sharing it here, as well…

She’s Ninety!
She doesn’t feel that way!
She feels like the Beautiful Young Girl she was in the 1940’s
Dating
And Flirting
And Dancing
Pioneering Fashion
Enjoying Good Food
And Good Times…
All of the things people today think they are So Cool for having discovered…
She was doing them all seventy years ago.

TAMMY

Tammy Grimes

Tammy Grimes

I knew TAMMY GRIMES.
I had worked with her a bit, and kept bringing her in for Auditions over the years.
She was known for her eccentricities,
But invariably a constant Delight!

One of my first Jobs out of College was as Assistant to the Producer of SUNSET,
A Musical at the VILLAGE GATE
Which opened on November 7th, 1983
And closed on November 7th, 1983.
It was a Musical based on the film SUNSET BOULEVARD — an idea, clearly, ahead of its Time!

TAMMY was a STAR!

Touching God for the First Time

Dad, during his Gymnastics Days

My Dad passed away Five Years ago this Morning.
My Mother and I were with him.
He was Ninety Years Old.

During his battle with Cancer, he chose Home Hospice Care.
We took care of him.
One of those things that you can in no way be prepared for,
But as the Universal Prayer goes,
“Dear God, Please turn me into someone who can do this!”

On the day he died, I sent this Letter to my Nephews and Niece.
Today, in memoriam, I am posting it here:

So Much Pain
So Much National Disgrace
How Do we get on now?

Clinging to one another.
I have been So Inspired by my fellow-Citizens on Planet Earth this past week.
People figuring out what to do.
How to write their CongressPersons
And Stop such easy Access to Weapons of War and Mass Destruction
With No BackGround Checks, No Waiting Periods…
People sharing information about to whom to write
And How
Email Addresses
Hard Copy Letter Addresses
PostCards
Whether or not it is OK to Write a Congressmen who is not of your District…

Such Tremendous Activity
Such a Great Coming Together
Such a Beautiful Sharing of Community.

My Friend, JOHN*

JoyDr. JOHN WADDELL
Earthling, Mr. Wonderful, Psychologist, Metaphysical Teacher
& Expert on the Conscious and Practical Application of the Law Of Attraction

JOHN helped sort things out.
He was the Beloved of our Beloved SARK
And she was So Generous in sharing him with all of us.

I once frenetically whined to him that I did not understand how the Law of Attraction worked.
I told him that as I was heading home to speak with him on the phone
rushing from a day of Work and taking care of MOM,
I was late because of missing several different trains, each by a hair’s breadth,
and my phone battery dying
when just as I stepped from the station, the skies broke into torrential rain…
Really? Could I be attracting all of this!?
He spoke calmly and Lovingly, “Yes!
You can change these things. Quite easily.
But why would you want to?
Your Life sounds like a movie — something most of us only dream of Living.
You have that.
Why would you want to change it?
I don’t think that you do.”

JOHN had a way of turning on a LightBulb for people in their Lives.
He handed out small Epiphanies
the way other generous souls might hand out candy to children.

Post Number One Hundred

Facing the Blank Page

Facing the Blank Page

This is my One-Hundredth Blog Post.

One Hundred Musings,

Explorations,

Journeys,

Wonders,

Political Rants,

and Heartfelt Offerings.

As I start to write this, sitting in an airport,

a family with two screaming wailing children comes and sits right next to me.

I write anyway.

Do What you Can

Marcal Paper Products

Marcal Paper Products

We have very strict rules in my Household about Disposable Paper Products.
100% Post Consumer Recycled Only.
As a former student of mine phrased it,
“No one needs to kill a Tree to wipe their ass!”
Crass, but Clear.

Reduce
ReUse
ReCycle

The Words are decidedly in that order.

First Rule: Use Less. (more…)

Make a Joyful Noise

Screen Shot 2015-10-18 at 8.31.24 PMRecently, My Friend’s Mom died.
I was very sad to receive this news.
She was a great Lady and I Loved her.
I wanted to write something, and amidst the hundred million commitments between receiving the news on Sunday and the Funeral Service on Tuesday Evening, I did.
It was neither as fleshed out nor as Poetic nor as Deeply Expressive as I wished it to be.
But it was what I had.

I arrived at the Funeral Home and told my friend,
“I wrote something.
I am happy to read it.
And I am happy to not read it.
It’s not very good.
I am also happy just to give it to you.”

She shrugged, and said empathetically, “I don’t know.”

NYC Pride 1982

When I was a twenty-something, I didn’t understand why it was called “Pride.”
I didn’t March back then.
Today I understand
Today I feel it
Today I March
Because We are All One.
What happens to one of us happens to All of Us.

Why I Teach

Perez Hilton

Because I grew up with BARBARA WALTERS
And you grew up with PEREZ HILTON.

Because I grew up in the EISENHOWER/KENNEDY Era
And you grew up in the REAGAN/BUSH Era.

Because I grew up learning Table Manners
And you grew up learning Apps.

Because when I grew up, we made it,
And when you grew up, you bought it.

Because when I grew up, Discipline and Respect and Good Sportsmanship were Values taught to us,
And when you grew up, Everyone got a Trophy.
