February 14^th is St. Valentine’s Day.

According to CNN, last year’s Valentine’s Day spending total for Americans was:
$ 18,600,000,000.00

BIG BUSINESS!

All for a day which honors a third Century Roman Martyr who was beaten, stoned, and then decapitated under the Emperor CLAUDIUS II, for marrying young Christian Couples in secret at a time when it was believed that single men made better soldiers (Less timid in battle; Less responsibilities — More fearless… Not dissimilar to today’s recruiting policies…)

How did this turn into 18.6 Billion Dollars in Spending?

Feel bad?
Unacknowledged?
Do you feel sad that no one is spending 18.6 Billion Dollars on You or that you have no one on whom to spend 18.6 Billion Dollars?

Details on MR. VALENTINE’s life are sketchy,
as details are wont to be over 1,800 years.
His story is believed to be an amalgam of the stories of three different Martyrs.
And we have seen how the Catholic Church can be when doling out those Sainthoods…

Let us Dispense with the Requirements to Celebrate St. Valentine’s Day in any Particular Way.
Let us Grant Ourselves the Right to Make this Holiday

Let’s Declare it ACTS OF KINDNESS DAY!

Let’s take our $139.97 dollars (average spending per person) and give a hundred dollars to a Homeless Person and come home and tell our SweetHeart what we did, leaving $39.97 for groceries to make dinner together at home!

Take a Yoga Class!
Meditate!
Trade a Massage with a Friend — even if it’s just a hand massage or foot massage!
Run a Bubble Bath and sit in it for hours
…while savoring a box of SEE’s chocolates or Fresh StrawBerries!
Call Your Mother!
Call Your GrandMother!
Visit an Elderly Shut-in, and bring that person Dinner!
Build a Snowman!
PLAY!
DELIGHT YOUR SELF!
DELIGHT OTHERS!
Forgive Someone!
Forgive Yourself!
Read a Favorite Story by CandleLight!
Play your Favorite Music All Day Long…

Whatever you do, Don’t beat, stone and decapitate anyone!
And Don’t Buy into the Myth that you need to spend a lot of money to Feel Good about Yourself or About Your Relationship!
